ENIAC was designed to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory. ENIAC was conceived and designed by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert of the University of Pennsylvania.

Universal Automatic Computer was the first general purpose electronic digital computer designed for commercial use, produced by Universal Accounting Company of John Mauchly and J.P.Eckert in 1951.
